process shots for assignment 1 - 2010-01-29 20:03:15
| a few shots that were taken as the class put together our first assignment. they are pretty blurry as the light was bad and this was handheld but it might give you some idea. the assignment was to shoot one or two rolls of film with the theme or creating self portraits without the physical body in the frame. we were to come to the next class with contact sheets which were put out on the table and we all went around and chose 2 images from everyone's contact sheets. the images that were chosen most often were then printed for a little 'show' on the hallway wall. we also put up some of the contact sheets. the critique that followed focused on how a gallery patron might view the work. from this we realized we hadn't provided any text to go with the images and the images themselves were not enough to give the viewer an understanding of the show. our next assignment is the push the ideas that emerged in this assignment further. we are to shoot new photographs in which we react to the photographs the group chose from our original contact sheets - we are each to have a set of 5 new 8 x 10 inch prints and we must be able to articulate how these images are a reaction to the original images in the show. the images here from top left clockwise are - sorting the prints and deciding on an order for hanging them - the contact sheets hung on the wall - group class shot in front of our show - a class member viewing the work. |
