one is the first number - #7 - 2009-11-24 21:27:50
| sometimes it takes putting a few images in a series up before i get a sense of what the series is about for me. as Cat mentioned some of them - particularly the one of the man and the mannequins - are speaking about loneliness and also about feeling objectified and misunderstood. others of them though are not about loneliness but are about some of the more positive aspects of aloneness like standing on one's own feet and having faith in one's self. the title 'one is the first number' refers to a lot of things for me - in the context of photography and street photography it refers to how you have to work with where you are and sometimes that means walking before running. i've lucked into a few decent street photographs with more than one figure in it - but often i have trouble catching a moment where an image with a few figures lines up well compositionally. realistically my skill level isn't developed to the place where i'm nailing a lot of multi-figure street photographs. so recently i've been thinking about what i can express with only one figure in the image. this one was taken in Banff on last New Year's Eve. i'll continue this series for a while longer. on another topic - i'm not making it to photoblogs as much as i would like these days - and often my comments are less than articulate. it's not lack of appreciation for other's work - it's just that by the time i get to photoblogs these days i've exhausted my communication abilities. |
