with yesterday's image Daina mentioned scale - she wasn't complaining or criticizing she just mentioned it wasn't easy to get a sense of the scale of the landscape in yesterday's image. scale in landscape work is something i've been struggling with - i need to do some reading on how to manage this. the obvious answer is to include a person in the image - however for many of the landscape images i go alone to places that aren't overly peopled. scale is an issue with this image as well - it's really hard to tell the magnitude here - the boulders in the foreground are taller than i am though. and that river is big and loud. there's also a long drop (at least 100 feet) behind me and yes i climbed over the fence to stand where i am. this is the Emerald River and i'm standing on a natural boulder bridge over the river. the scale issue kept me from posting this image earlier and caused me to delete other images taken at the same spot. with yesterday's image i'm not good with numbers and measurements but those hills might be about 1,000 feet high and it would take most people at least 20 minutes to walk over the hills and out of the photograph.
