here are three images from the recent beauty school work. left to right - makeup work Jenna and model Erin, makeup work Tanis and model Haley, makeup work Danielle and model Dianna. note added: Daina asked how i make the eyes so intense. here's what i do - if the class is large like this last one i have to shoot very fast - no more than 3 to 5 minutes with each model and i need 4 exam shots and a head shot - so with the camera it's just work fast and hope for the best. a lot of work is done in the processing. first i try to crop so that the eyes fall in those 'rule of thirds' sweet spots - helps generate attention on the eyes. then i use two tools - the clone stamp and the patch tool. i clean up under the eyes first - getting rid of all wrinkles and dark circles. i find the patch tool is really good for the fine under eye lines. then i clean up all the skin so that it's spotless. with the clone stamp i use a fairly large brush on the skin and a hardness of no more than 4 - opacity 40 to 60 and flow 40 to 60. if i'm cleaning up shine i sometimes take the opacity and flow down around 20. i do the whites of the eyes last and i use a small brush (size 15 to 25). i also enlarge the image to 200 or 300% for the eyes clean up. i take the clone stamp and find either the whitest part of the eye or a natural looking white area in the models clothing and use this as the base for the clone stamp and then i very carefully remove all the red and veins in the eyes. if the eye whites have a bluish cast i also try to get rid of this. cleaning up the eye whites makes the eyes look bigger and really makes them stand out. this and the eye makeup creates that intensity.
