back to the remaining night shots. this was taken in December - we were in Port Alice (population 800) and it had been raining but then it stopped and i went out after dark for a walk. when i saw all this smoke i was really happy i had the camera in my hand. i think someone was working on their truck (or boat) and they had a work light and a small fire going to keep them warm. on a different topic two weeks ago i mentioned i had a ton of work to do. i'm happy to say my deadline has been met. sometimes i photograph the makeup work of the beauty school students. i go down on a sunday night sheepishly hauling along my $35.00 Canadian Tire halogen worklight and hoping no one asks about my 'lighting system'. i have only a few minutes with each student to get exam and portfolio shots. it's been going okay but this time i was having huge color management issues. the images looked good on my monitor but not good when i printed them out. i give each student an 8x10 inch headshot of her model and as this work goes in their portfolio and will help them with future employment i want to be sure they have a great image. i've spent hours and hours tweaking the images and second guessing my printer and this week also ordered some lighting books and was really sweating over the whole thing. today was my last day to get it right and this morning my husband said well try the other printer - the old one - the HP. magic. beautiful prints. huge relief. but a strobist light system is also now on my shopping list. i'll put one of the student images up soon.
