a note about yesterday's rock formation. hoodoos occur in the badlands (arid areas with sedimentary soil). they are caused by differential resistance to erosion. usually a hoodoo has a hard top (caprock) that protects the soft rock below it from wearing away. today's photo was taken in the same area (Hwy 93) and you can see as the bank wears away hoodoos will form.
