from Assignment 1 in PhotoArts 3 - 2010-10-14 19:21:56
| today we presented our first assignment in Photo Arts 3. the assignment had two parts - a passive walk and a walk where we made an intervention in the environment where we walked. this is a photograph from the passive walk. the walk was made on a sunday morning in Calgary. the photographs were taken with my Canon T70 and a roll of Kodak Ektar 100 iso film. i've posted the rest of the photographs from this walk on a my website here if you would like to see them. i also put up the following wall text to go with the photographs. "A Sunday morning walk in Calgary on September 26, 2010. I walked following only whim and took photographs of what caught my eye. Not thinking of themes or consistency or even of using this roll of film for the passive walk assignment. It was just a walk and I was happy to have time to walk in Calgary. It felt like it had been a long time, although in truth less than a year since I'd had free time in a city. The strongest choice point was the Walk of Shame tin. I hesitated. Photograph it or not? Then I pushed the shutter. Maybe it's my age. Or maybe it's who I've become at this age but I think about shame a lot. Also about regret. About how many decisions made quickly can not be undone. The moment of decision passing quickly. The ramifications lasting much longer. I see the recurring theme of desire in these too. And loss. Although perhaps less judgment about the loss and the desire." tomorrow i will post the photographs from the intervention part of the assignment. i had a great time on the north island but i'm also glad to be back to a computer where i can post to the photoblog. note added: i should explain this photograph - the buildings are reflections in an outdoor goods window. the warm orange structures are tents - they're on a poster in the store window. i loved the overlaying the tents on to the buildings - city elements and then wilderness elements. this feels like it's always been part of my life - life in an urban setting for work and study and then time in the wilderness to refresh. |
